Meet the team

Carol is the founder of the sanctuary. She has devoted her life to rescuing and helping animals from an early age.

In 1992 Carol had to give up the land she rented in Little Clacton and so she decided to take the huge step of buying a piece of land to set up a sanctuary in St Osyth. Shortly after purchasing the land she married her husband Steve and together they started to build up the sanctuary helping difficult and elderly animals.

1998

In 1998 Carol and Steve were successful in getting planning permission for the barn and stables. Throughout this time the amount of animals in their care grew and grew. It was clear that they needed another dedicated person to help.

2009

In 2009 Martin Bailey joined Carol and Steve in running the sanctuary. In December 2011 they were successful in getting planning permission for Martin to live at the sanctuary as manager so that the animals had round the clock care. Martin shares his home with Scooby his German Shepherd dog. Scooby watches the CCTV much to the amusement of us all

2012

In December 2012 the sanctuary was successful in becoming a Community Interest Company. It is run entirely by a wonderful team of volunteers and rely on donations, fundraising, our charity shop in St Osyth and our Open days.

The sanctuary is a magical place where animals and people are equal

Below you will find some interviews with the founder and manager of the sanctuary. Listening to these will give you a feel of how committed the team is to helping the animals in their care.
